FormSG and SMS integration

Plumber offers SMS integration, allowing government staffs to send automated SMS notifications to form respondents. This helps improve communication and reduce response times, streamlining operations.

Why you need this

Sending SMS to respondent or users with Plumber

Before you get started, make sure you've signed into and have an account created with .

Twilio is a paid service, so make sure you have clearance from your finance team. Note that new accounts on Twilio have a trial feature that allows you to send SMS, so you can try that on Plumber.

Connect the form you wish to receive notifications for

  1. Under "Choose an app", select "FormSG" as the app.

  2. Under "Choose an event", select "New form submission"

  3. Click "Continue" button

  1. Under "Choose connection", click "Add new connection", a modal will pop out.

  1. Enter your Form URL and secret key and click

  1. Click "Submit" and a "Your form is connected successfully." text would appear.

  2. Choose how you want Plumber to deal with NRICs collected in your form responses. If your form does not collect NRICs select "Do nothing".

  1. Click on 'Test step' button and mock data will appear. If you wish to test with actual data, you may submit a response to the live form and it'll appear the next time you click on "Test step".

  1. A drop down will appear (as seen in the screenshot below) if the test is a success. Do note that mock data are being used in the example below.

Send SMS with Twilio

  1. Under "Choose an app" drop, choose 'Twilio' as the app.

  1. Under "Choose an event", choose "Send SMS".

  1. Click "Continue" button.

  2. Under "Choose connection" drop down, If you do not have an existing connection, click "Add new connection"

  1. A modal will appear, enter the Account SID and API secret key that can be retrieved on your Twilio account on the front page.

  1. Click "Submit"

  2. Click "Continue"

  3. If you're using a trial account, you may retrieve the trial number from Twilio and under "To Number", you can enter the number that Twilio has whitelisted earlier in order for the flow to work.

  4. If you have bought a number from Twilio, you may use the number below and enter the rest of field however you want.

Ensure that you have a field for respondents to enter their mobile number in your form

Test action

  1. Click "Continue" when you're done.

  2. Click 'Test step' to see if your action is working as intended.
